This is a custom project designed around traditional Japanese tatami. The client chose to replace common spring or foam mattresses with breathable, natural tatami, creating a drier and more grounded sleeping environment.
All dimensions are tailored to the space, including length, width, and height, allowing the bed to fit perfectly and make full use of every inch.
The bed frame is planned according to the layout of three tatami mats. Each section is supported with full horizontal reinforcements underneath, distributing weight evenly and preventing sagging. When stepped on, it feels firm and stable, properly supporting the load between each tatami section for reliable daily use.
Hidden mortise-and-tenon joints are used at the bed frame connections, maintaining a clean appearance while ensuring structural strength.
For installation, the structure is divided into the main frame, round legs, and three bed panels. This allows easier transport and on-site assembly without compromising durability, while also providing flexibility for future use.
The entire bed is made from solid white oak using thick materials, ensuring durability and stability.Natural wood creates a safer living environment and develops its own character over time.
The finish is custom-matched by a professional coating factory based on the client’s selected color. A specialized technique presents a modern tone while preserving the natural wood grain.Instead of covering the surface, it allows the texture of the wood to remain visible and blend with the surrounding space.
