種植於廖先生家門口的肖楠樹已經陪伴一家人幾十年的時光，在幾年前不敵颱風吹襲而倒下，因為不捨而一直放置於庭院。
近期台中廖家的家中進行整修，重新規劃居家空間，正好需要一張餐桌。廖先生輾轉找到木島工廠，諮詢用自家原木材料製作餐桌的可行性。
Using Fallen Tree Materials
The Taiwan cypress tree planted at Mr. Liao’s front door has accompanied his family for decades. Unfortunately, it fell during a typhoon a few years ago and has been left in the courtyard because the family was reluctant to part with it.
Recently, as the Liao family in Taichung was renovating their home and planning their living space, they found themselves in need of a new dining table. Mr. Liao turned to Bokto Factory to consult about the feasibility of using their own fallen tree wood to make a dining table.
從樹木變成實木材
將原木用帶鋸機剖開成一片一片的木板，每層中間用木壓條隔開，放置通風乾燥，這是每片優良穩定的實木板必經的過程。
至於要大剖成多厚的板材，是由欲製作的成品推算厚度。這次我們的肖楠木桌板的厚度是5公分，故當時將原木材剖了大約6公分，待乾燥後，將表面刨平整再膠合。肖楠木的寬度每片約10多公分，我們用拼接的方式，製作成肖楠木拼板。
From Tree to Solid Wood Material
The process of turning a log into solid wood planks involves cutting the log into slices using a band saw. Each layer is separated by wooden sticks for ventilation and drying, a necessary step for producing each piece of high-quality and stable solid wood.
The thickness of the planks is determined based on the desired thickness of the final product. For our cypress wood table, the thickness is 5 centimeters, so we initially cut the wood approximately 6 centimeters thick. After drying, the surface is planed smooth and then glued together. The width of each piece of cypress wood is about 10 centimeters, and we use a joining method to create a cypress wood laminated board.
肖楠木
台灣肖楠木為台灣特有種，已被列為瀕臨滅絕的植物，台灣森林長期封山禁採。
肖楠木有淡淡的清香，材質細密，木紋有明顯山型紋，顏色為淺褐色，材料的缺點是容易有細小的裂痕。樹齡較小的肖楠木，味道較淡，木質也較脆。
Taiwan Cypress (Chamaecyparis formosensis)
Taiwan cypress is endemic to Taiwan and has been listed as a plant species on the brink of extinction, leading to long-term conservation efforts and bans on logging in Taiwanese forests.
Taiwan cypress is known for its faint, pleasant fragrance and fine-grained wood with distinct mountain-like patterns. The color is a light brown. One downside of this material is its tendency to develop small cracks. Younger Taiwan cypress trees have a milder scent and more brittle wood compared to older ones.
