Selected for outdoor landscaping, treated railway sleepers are the primary material. These sleepers, once used in American railways, are made from hardwoods like oak and teak, treated with special dyes to resist decay and pests. Highly resistant, they are perfect for outdoor landscaping and showcasing potted plants.
Designed by an architecture graduate for personal use, this custom-made table features terrazzo material selected by the designer, which has recently regained popularity. With patterns reminiscent of mosaic tiles found in old houses, the vintage elements add a cozy warmth to the space.
We crafted a set of table legs tailored to the dimensions and appearance of the cherry wood tabletop. The prominent water wave pattern of cherry wood is complemented by the understated straight grain of the legs in the same color palette. With large chamfered edges, the legs showcase a rounded and non-rigid modern style.
Located at the entrance hall, it’s the first piece of furniture customers see when entering, setting the tone for the house’s atmosphere. The item is coated with Poly Urethane, giving it a matte white finish that covers the wood surface, showcasing a modern and minimalist style with a natural feel.
Common outdoor woods such as Southern Pine or Cedar are options for making the fence, but they must undergo preservation treatment to significantly extend their lifespan. Preservation methods include chemical soaking or natural processes like burnt cedar and carbonization, enhancing the wood’s stability and resistance to decay.
The front door of a home serves as a barrier between indoors and outdoors, exposed to wind and sun outside while dealing with air conditioning inside. After careful evaluation, the Bokto team recommended using Burma teak wood for its natural oil content that enhances its durability in varying environmental conditions. This wood is commonly used in high-end yachts, making it a perfect choice for our project.
This rosewood table features an unjoined rosewood slab as the tabletop, with legs designed as a Chinese-style storage cabinet. The slab measures 295 centimeters in length and 110-115 centimeters in width, making it a rare and complete piece of rosewood with beautiful grain patterns and no cracks at all.
We have full confidence in our wood processing accuracy. The support bars of this bed set are precisely CNC machined and mortised, with minimal dimension errors. For large solid wood furniture, this is quite a challenge. With the collaboration of our team at Bokto Furniture, the alignment between the solid wood bars and support bars of the bed set is nearly perfect, achieving the goal of creating furniture pieces that satisfy our customers.
In addition to the appearance of the product, consideration must be given to how the customers will use it. Japanese gates are placed outdoors, in contact with the ground and exposed to weather conditions. Therefore, material selection and structural considerations are crucial. The main structure is processed using traditional wooden tenon joints, which is a better method in terms of strength and future maintenance, all of which must be meticulously completed by the master craftsman.
In a consumer culture where items are often discarded after use, many possessions carry our memories. The value of these old items is not as straightforward as it appears. If possible, we hope to continue using them.
The owner of the chair found us online and kindly explained that the chair had been damaged during its shipment from abroad to Taiwan, leading them to seek our assistance for repairs. The customer contacted the Bokto team, expressing a desire to repair the damaged furniture. The affection the owner has for this piece is evident.
One of the distinctive features of solid wood furniture is its reparability, which also contributes to its longevity and suitability as a family heirloom.
This traditional kitchen cabinet was once standard dowry equipment, and even today, its design is highly suitable for use. Crafted from early Taiwanese hinoki wood, this piece is a labor of love. Sent to Taichung for repair, it is evident that this cabinet holds significant importance for its owner.
Mr. Zhong’s wooden tabletop, originally used as a conference table, had become severely deformed, with the surface undulating like a small hill. This not only affected the aesthetics of the table but also made it unusable. Distressed by this, Mr. Zhong was eager to find professional restoration services to address the issue.
The top panel of the cabinet previously sustained cracks and a small hole due to being stepped on. Given the wood's natural aging and wear from prolonged use, these damages were inevitable. The owner, who has a deep affection for antique furniture, specifically requested that the original appearance be preserved during the restoration process.
The wooden parts of the chair display the unique wear marks that only come with solid wood furniture, while the plastic covering is already damaged. Our goal is to preserve the texture of the wood while transforming it into a piece of furniture that is both aesthetically pleasing and durable.
Viewing woodwork through a modern aesthetic lens, the style of old-fashioned furniture may not always fit with contemporary interiors. Additionally, the style of finishing often involves heavy layers of paint, which can give the wood a stiff or plastic-like texture. In this project, Bokto also undertook re-creation in these two aspects.
You may have encountered tables marked with white stains. These marks often appear as circles of various sizes, caused by placing hot items like water glasses, tea cups, or pots on the surface, which damages the top layer of lacquer due to heat, leaving white traces on the table. In this case, the Bokto team restored a living room coffee table commonly used for dining. This table had various white marks, mostly from placing hot soup or dishes. Over the years, these marks accumulated, turning the tabletop into a mottled surface.
The client transported it from Miaoli to Taichung for us to assess its restoration feasibility. Upon evaluation, the craftsmen at Bokto determined that the cost of restoring the bath barrel could be quite high. Therefore, they suggested repurposing the original wood to create practical small furniture for the home. Conveniently, the client needed a low stool, so we reused the disassembled materials to start crafting the furniture.
The dark, heavy varnish may have concealed the beauty of the wood grain, and the original finish had shown clear signs of wear and aging. The client wished to breathe new life into these valuable pieces while also showcasing their natural texture.
