Taichung Zhang Residence - Designer Wife's Warm Home

This project is located in a newly developed area of Taichung. Before moving in, Mr. Zhang approached us to discuss the feasibility of custom furniture. As a businessman, Mr. Zhang has a keen taste and high standards for every detail of his life. His wife, an interior designer, personally designed all the custom furniture pieces. Because these creations stem from her own creative concepts, she is particularly insistent on the quality of the furniture.

After comparing several woodworking factories in Taichung, Mr. Zhang ultimately chose our Bokto team to undertake this custom project. We are deeply honored and grateful for the client's trust and support in our expertise.

Solid Wood Bed Set

Initially, the client had some reservations about the custom bed set. However, once the entire project was completed, this solid wood bed set became the client's favorite piece.

When the client initially discussed the bed set with Bokto, their primary concern was the potential inaccuracies in the embedded structure processing. Bokto, combining precise machinery with traditional craftsmanship, assured the client of the high accuracy in wood processing. The structural support beams of this bed set were precisely machined using CNC technology, with minimal size discrepancies, challenging the complexities of large solid wood furniture production. The Bokto team worked meticulously to ensure the perfect integration of the structural support beams and solid wood strips, consistently delivering furniture that satisfied the client.

Even without specific requests from the client, we maintained our unwavering commitment to structural integrity, especially for the bed's base. Prioritizing quality, we used solid Ash wood for the bed frame and legs, ensuring durability and strength.

The client specifically requested the integration of touch-activated light strips into the side panels of the bed. To accommodate this, Bokto expertly added grooves perfectly matching the dimensions of the light strips into the bed frame.

Bedside Table

To complement the design of the headboard, Bokto crafted a minimalist Japanese-style bedside table, with the top panel featuring two square cutouts.

African Teak Dining Table

The craftsmen carefully selected and matched the grain of African teak to create a beautifully patterned dining table top, using a panel joining method. Through precise mortise and tenon joinery, the table top appears as a single solid piece of wood when viewed from above, with the wood grain looking exceptionally detailed and uniform.

The seemingly simple beveled edge of the tabletop is actually a crucial element that determines the overall aesthetic of the dining table. According to the designer's specifications, we used a bevel angle of 35-40 degrees, different from the common 45-degree angle. This subtle variation significantly impacts the furniture's texture and visual appeal. Consequently, Bokto utilized a special, rarely used tool, operated by experienced craftsmen, to meticulously shape the raw wood into a piece of furniture that closely aligns with the client's vision of perfection.

The client chose an industrial-style design for the dining table, with the main structure made of lightweight iron pipes finished with powder coating.Underneath the dining table, a white storage cabinet was placed for convenient storage of items like induction cookers and other dining equipment. The contrasting colors add a sense of lightness to the overall design.

From the initial discussions and planning to the preparation of materials and assembly, every stage was handled personally by Bokto's craftsmen. The process continued meticulously up to the final on-site installation. We pay careful attention to every detail at each step, consistently maintaining our commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Rosewood Dining Chairs

For those familiar with wood materials, rosewood is a well-known premium furniture material.

Each piece of solid wood furniture is unique because every log and tree is irreplaceable. Before deep processing the logs, no one can predict the patterns and colors hidden beneath the bark. When handling Mr. Zhang's order, we sawed open the rosewood logs in our factory, and the stunning mountain-shaped grain captivated everyone present, making us deeply grateful for nature's gifts.

Ash Wood Office Desk

This solid wood office desk, measuring 3.4 meters in length, required careful consideration during transportation to the apartment. Typical apartment elevators are about 1.8 meters high. As seen in the photos, the client's furniture uses a continuous piece of wood from left to right. To preserve the wood grain and ensure the furniture could be delivered to the client's home, we employed a unique solution. The secret lies in our design of a detachable solid wood tabletop. We transported the desk in separate pieces and reassembled it on-site using mortise and tenon joints, restoring the desk to its original form.

The office desk was customized with holes drilled according to the client’s work needs, allowing network and telephone cables to easily reach the floor outlets. The desk surface and all the holes were meticulously sanded to provide a smooth, warm feel that enhances the natural warmth of the wood.

Ash Wood Daybed

An ash wood daybed was installed by the window connecting the balcony to the room, a spot frequently exposed to sunlight and wind. We took extra care in the surface treatment, using a Polyurethane clear varnish to protect the wooden furniture. Additionally, we reinforced the underside of the wooden planks with several support bars to minimize the risk of warping.

Conclusion

Upon receiving the furniture, the client told the Bokto team that the wait was well worth it. For us, taking on challenges and receiving positive feedback from our clients is the greatest motivation for maintaining our commitment to high quality.

使用自家木材改造—肖楠木餐桌 Using Your Own Wood – Incense Cedar Dining Table

繼上次廖先生將自家收藏多年的肖楠木材改造成桌板大獲好評後，這次E在網站上看到我們的修復實例，決定將家中珍藏的肖楠木一枚板交給木島處理，我們安排司機協助收送，為他們新家打造一張獨一無二的餐桌。 Following the success of Mr. Liao’s incense cedar table transformation, another client, E, discovered our restoration projects on our website and decided to entrust Bokto with a cherished single-slab piece of incense cedar from their collection. We arranged pickup and delivery, helping them create a one-of-a-kind dining table for their new home. 木板原始狀況與評估這塊木板雖然擁有歲月累積的紋理與香氣，但一枚板的厚重造型與尺寸略顯不符現代居家使用，加上木板本身有開裂的狀況，除了安全疑慮以外，尺寸也不適合製作一張六人餐桌。經過木島評估後，建議採用「拼板」的方式製作，如此一來能有效保留並活用這塊珍貴的肖楠木材。 Original Condition and Evaluation Although this slab had beautiful grains and a rich natural scent from years of aging, its heavy form and limited dimensions made it impractical for a modern six-person dining table. The slab also had cracks that raised safety concerns. After careful evaluation, Bokto recommended reworking the slab into a panel-style tabletop. This not only preserved the unique character of the wood but also allowed for better usability. 從剖木到拼板木工師傅從剖木開始，依據木材的紋理與裂縫情況，規劃出合適的剖線，彎弧及不適用的裂痕在這個階段會被淘汰，再使用帶鋸剖出所需的寬度與厚度。接著進行刨木，將每片木料刨製成相同厚度，之後再進行拼板與精細研磨，讓桌面平整細緻，展現木紋本色。 From Sawing to Panel Assembly Our craftsmen began by evaluating the wood’s grain and splits to determine optimal cutting lines. Warped or severely cracked sections were removed during this stage. Using a bandsaw, the slab was cut to the required width and thickness. Next came planing, ensuring each piece reached the same thickness, followed by jointing and precision sanding to create a smooth and seamless tabletop that highlights the cedar’s natural grain. 桌腳設計與修色桌腳則搭配溫潤自然的栓木實木，外型設計上採外斜角度，增添視覺上的協調與構造穩定感。桌腳的表面則選用與桌板相近的顏色進行噴漆修色，讓桌子整體顏色相同。特別的是，客人希望能在餐桌下方設置層板，方便收納熱墊、報紙等生活雜物，同時不影響坐姿的腿部空間。因此我們在設計層板高度時將位置調高，且將層板縮窄，確保實用與舒適兼具。 Table Leg Design and Color Matching For the table legs, we used solid ash wood with a gentle natural tone. The legs were angled outward to enhance both visual balance and structural stability. They were then color-matched to the tabletop with a similar-toned finish to ensure harmony across the entire piece. The client also requested a lower shelf under the table for storing heating pads, newspapers, and other everyday items—without interfering with legroom. At Bokto, we refined it further by adding subtle under-beveled edges—not the typical 45-degree chamfer, but a steeper angle closer to vertical. This gives the piece a low-key yet refined elegance.
