Wooden products can be passed down through generations, and this wooden table top is a prime example of recycled material. By preserving the wood itself and employing craft techniques, it has been renovated into a brand-new table top.
Modern aesthetics may not always align with old-fashioned furniture designs. Additionally, traditional furniture often features heavy paint applications that can make the wood appear stiff or plastic-like. In this project, Bokto has also undertaken a reconstruction of these aspects.
Old furniture often exhibits cracks, scratches, and other repairable damages. After refurbishing the wood, the furniture can be used for many more decades.
First, inappropriate finishes are removed to reveal the beautiful natural wood grain. During the refurbishment, precise large-scale woodworking machinery is used to maintain custom quality. Each dimension is meticulously planned and discussed with experienced craftsmen before production begins.
To transform the originally irregularly shaped wooden table top into a more usable rectangular shape, we decided to add maple wood of similar nature to the missing corners and used acacia wood for the dovetail joints.
The dovetail joint work is particularly challenging, requiring more precise work on the wood and several manual processes. This furniture-making process is time-consuming but essential to ensure high-quality furniture production.
We carefully repaired the cracks on the edges of the original wood table top, cutting the wood accurately and joining new materials to add character. We preserved the natural textures of the original materials, and by blending different wood tones, gave this seemingly unremarkable old furniture a new and impressive appearance.
By using solid wood materials and carefully selecting appropriate restoration and reconstruction methods, this wooden table top has been revitalized, becoming a charming piece that enriches our living space.
