Introduction
African Teak, officially known as Afrormosia, is so named due to its color and texture resemblance to teak. In reality, Afrormosia is closer to the rosewood family.
This wood type boasts a natural, captivating luster without any distinct odor, and its structure is delicate and uniform. The cut surfaces can achieve an ultra-smooth finish after fine sanding and display rich natural colors when wiped with coconut oil. African Teak shows high stability once dried, with strength ranging from medium to high, harder than oak but slightly softer than rosewood, and has a very long lifespan.
Due to these superior material characteristics, Afrormosia is extremely versatile in its applications. It can replace traditional teak in various products, especially excelling in the manufacture of large items like wooden tabletops.
Afrormosia is primarily found in West and Central Africa, in countries such as Congo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and Ghana. Given its excellent qualities and broad applications, the stock of this wood is gradually diminishing, highlighting the importance of protecting and sustainably utilizing this precious resource.
