Introduction
Birch is best known for its quality from temperate regions such as Russia and Europe and is a cold-resistant tree that grows relatively quickly.
Birch wood has a color and texture similar to beech wood, featuring a light reddish appearance and fine grain. This wood is highly practical and extensively used to produce high-quality plywood. In birch plywood manufacturing, the outer layers are often covered with different types of wood, making it appear indistinguishable from other woods, but its layered, biscuit-like cross-section is visible from the sides. This type of plywood is also used in the manufacture of bentwood furniture due to its high strength and good flexibility, making it widely applicable in various furniture manufacturing processes.
Birch is mostly used to make high-quality plywood rather than being utilized directly as solid wood. Birch plywood can compete with solid wood in terms of quality and price and even exceeds it in some aspects, such as excellent stability. Additionally, the high yield of birch and the use of plantations make it a less environmentally impactful wood choice. Recently, birch plywood has become a popular choice for premium materials in Taiwan.
