Oak

Introduction

Oak primarily originates from the Eastern United States and is a non-toxic species. Its grain is wide, the texture is gentle, and the wood is hard. The cut surface exhibits large cell textures, occasionally showing water-like figures. The presence of coarse rays with blocked pores allows for the visible identification of brown spots of varying lengths, a distinctive feature for recognizing oak. Oak’s texture is distinctly rugged, suitable for brushed effects which emphasize the natural depth of the wood grain.

The color of oak varies by species, generally ranging from beige to tan, and may appear whiter or slightly pink. Commonly, the wood’s cut surfaces show wavy patterns or flashes, but it darkens upon oxidation. Oak is a hard species, used not only in furniture but also in the manufacture of whiskey barrels. For families with children or those preferring light-colored, non-toxic materials, oak is an excellent choice. It is also frequently used in Japanese furniture production.
