Sen Wood

 Introduction

Sen, predominantly known as Japanese Ash in Taiwan, is celebrated for its robust hardness, appealing color, and streamlined grain, making it a preferred choice for Japanese brands as well as in shop fittings and residential settings. Japanese Ash is characterized by its straight, uniform grain, minimal knots, and distinct growth rings, which are slightly glossy at times. Its simplicity and elegance make it a popular choice in interior design.

Japanese Ash (Sen) often serves as an alternative to American White Ash or Fraxinus due to their similar grain and color. The moderate hardness of Sen makes it highly workable, ideal for crafting furniture and interior wood veneers. Its distinct light and dark color variations appeal to those who favor light-colored materials with clear textures. Oak can also be a comparable alternative for those looking for similar qualities with more pronounced grain details.

Sen is native to temperate regions, with Japanese Ash primarily sourced from central to northern Japan. Fraxinus is mainly found in Hokkaido, while American White Ash is prevalent in the temperate zones of North America. These varieties differ slightly according to the climate of their regions.
